Hello!

People are used to call me Audrius. I'm your host for the weekly drawing challenge this week.
I hope you like my photos. And I'm looking forward to see your drawings.
Have a great week and don't forget to smile smile.gif

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that?€™s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that's great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 7 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

oliverandjazz

Here's my version of Akvile. I used a single mechanical pencil on Strathmore drawing paper. The reason for the one pencil was simply that I couldn't be bothered hunting out my box of graphites. I know Kay is giving me a showing up with her prolific output on this challenge. All well done too!
oliverandjazz
norma that is beautiful..a great job wink.gif

i am afraid i could not sleep last night, and with the quiet i just got lost in the colors.. happy.gif
siksnosparnyte
Great portrait Norma!

I showed both portraits to Akvile and she liked them very much. smile.gif
Sveta17
Thanks to the host for the beautiful pictures and to all the participants for their great contributions!
I've been tempted to try the cup &grapefruit and inspired by the watercolour thread in the forum and have tried to sketch with watercolour - very quick, no preliminary drawing and a small piece of paper, not very suitable for watercolour. I hope to have some spare time and try the other pictures as well.
oliverandjazz

How do you do that with your colors, you are NOT AFRAID of color that is true biggrin.gif it amazes me the way you use them and they look so good, when i try to do that it just doesnt work happy.gif a nice rendition

I swear to goodness Kay .. you and I must share the same brain donor.. If I had brought my watercolors to work I was thinking seriously of turning that lemon into an Easter Egg..
oliverandjazz
thank you ernest very much..

Carol that is too funny, Mindy was also thinking the same thing, it is the creative brain that does it, we are all creatively linked..great minds think alike biggrin.gif
*Roxy*
Those are like all really good choice of pictures to draw. Tomorrow is my last day of school so i'll have time to finish my atc music cards and I'd like to try some of these pictures. I have yet to participate in a weekly challenge
mmgalitz
Pastel pencil and smooth 70 lb paper
5 x 6, about an hour.

oliverandjazz
marisa you did a great job..this young lady has a lovely face for drawing..and so far she has seen herself in pencil, watercolor, pastel, .. happy.gif
ElenaM
So much display of talent and beehive activity here, I am impressed. This challenge seems it will go down in history as well as the early signs show.
I am still adding the final touches to my tempera tulips. The week is still young and I have a few favorites to try in color and graphite.
Spring must be in the air that everybody burried the charcoal and pencils and reached for the watercolors and pastels.Watercolor should be included as an Ok medium for challenges because there are subjects that ask for this medium.
Anyway i am glad that everyone is lively and active in these past weeks.

This is a 2-hour drawing in oil pastels on canson mi-teintes pad dark blue 8x11in.I made many mistakes in shapes, the saucer, the half grapefruit in the cup; and changed the background color. I called this breakfast fruit as I use to eat in the morning half grapefruit followed by a cup of Turkish coffee.

I enjoyed drawing this still life mostly for the play of colors. The flesh of the fruit was the actual challenge.I don't know if i rendered it properly.

I think you did a great job, Elena.
I particularly like your blue cup and saucer, especially the nice reflections.
ElenaM
started work on the tamarind seeds and pods. Two grades of sepia and sanguine. 9x12in. Strathmore sketch pad.
So far i have one hour of sketching on this. Needs more touch up. I will repost the final version later.
ElenaM
Ten more minutes and I am calling it a day.

used some orange reds for the background.
ElenaM
Thank you, Barb.In the case of oil pastels i do not have the same control on shape and color like in CP. Also I am using a rather cheap set of 35 Pentel oil pastels.
siksnosparnyte
Great drawings, Elena! I like the colors you used in them smile.gif
Songsparrow
Tried oil pastels for the first time. Not something I feel comfortable using! 7" x 5" gesso primed canvas pad. 20 minutes.

siksnosparnyte
Lovely drawing, Steve. smile.gif
I'm impressed by everybody's speed... A drawing in 20 minutes? I would need lots of practice [and time, of course] to achieve that.

What a wonderful week
Here is my modest contribution. Charcoal.

Hello Audrius,

It is great to have communication with somebody from Lithuania and thanks for those nice pictures. I wanted to try with Akvile, who is a wonderful model. Here is she, about 2 hours mainly using HB and some 3b pencils. I hope she like it!
