I was wondering if a chat room would be of any help to people as i see that there is alot of people online quite alot of the time it may help to coax them in and start chatting etc on the forums as well .. I know some people are quite dubious about chatting in a forum but like to instant chat especially when they see other people greeting them personally

I think a chat room would be a good idea. I seldom go into chat rooms myself, but I know others love them.

I know its a work around but you could always download a chat client like bersirc or Mirc (there are a host of others). Then you can set up a chatroom in 'irc.freenode.net'.
I know it wouldn't be the same as a drawspace chatroom but I can think of at least one reason why the admins might not want to go that route; chat rooms rarely stay on topic!
They are quite useful though.
As a troubleshooting tool, walking people through a problem they are hard to beat.
They are also very addicting which is why I don't visit them often.
A weekly chat plus the occasional check to see whats going on are enough for me these days.
Did I mention they are very addicting?

I think it's a good idea

If people have MSN or AIM it would be quite easy to arrange group chats. Though it would mean only those who see a thread with our msn/aim names would know about it. A forum chatroom would be best, if possible

Hrmmm... way back when we first considered adding a forum to Drawspace, the idea of a chat room popped up. We decided that it would be better to avoid a chatroom so we could keep a permanent copy of conversations allowing others to review the discussions as a resource. Any topics or questions that pop up in a chat room are lost...
That being said, if the community as a whole feels very strongly about a chat room, it is certainly doable. Next chance I get I'll talk to Brenda about this as well.

Maybe Brenda or another established artist could do a live monthly surgery.. or even have guest artsit to attend a live chat .. just pop a time and day as a notice and have it for an hour.. just a thought

Chat rooms can be especially effective if scheduled times for meeting are announced.
The regulars tend to hang out all the time but a schedule lets everyone know of important events.
It easy to imagine tuning in to a lecture from Brenda.
Question and Answer? Moderated chat?
Sounds fun and educational.

As a former aol chatroom member I agree that they are very addicting, But used for the right cause I think a chatroom would be great for people who may have occational mental blocks, need advice or just a break. I think if Brenda hosted a chatroom when she had available time to give her exspertise it would be awesome. I am always willing to hear advice from the experts.

Isn't there a program from Microsoft called Office Meeting or Net Meeting or something that lets everone see what is being drawing on a paint pad? Maybe Brenda could give a special scheduled lesson once in a while using that? Just an idea. All the participants would need the net meeting program so maybe it won't work out. On the other hand is there a that kind of thing available at a web site level?

Wow! Calvin! Every once in a while you're brilliant! What a wonderful concept to have Brenda do a live demonstration! The only problem would be Mac users - I don't know about the software you mentioned but MicroSoft is often downright rude when it comes to Macs.
There is a program to show how paintings are done though as I've seen many tuts online use it. Not sure of the name of it or how it works - probably something along the lines of an animation program. I have Animation Shop with Paint Shop Pro & my Painter 1X software has a way to do an animation of a painting while it's being painted, but I have no idea of how to do it.
Geez, I'm getting like Woo & wondering off the subject again!
Uh, back to the chatroom theme - ok, everyone - carry on!

Actually, that's wandering off the subject! lol I really am fairly literate but just get into a hurry sometimes!

I wouldn't favour chat-rooms. We all have different schedules and it will always leave people out. Plus, we are a primitive species so we still live on a ball with a different side turned to the sun at a given time. We haven't figured out how to level it all or build a ring all the way around the Sun so it won't happen.
I know MSN Messenger (now Windows Live) had a "whiteboard" where people could jot down ideas and all would see it and discuss it. There might be a better thing for drawing but I suppose it might be crude and low-resolution. I don't think it would be easy to convey drawing ideas on a thing like that.

This would not be as efficient as a chatroom but - I have Yahoo messenger and anyone is welcomed to add me or tell me if they would like me to add them. I am online a lot and we could at least talk when we see each other available.
My yahoo ID is bobby_burcham@yahoo.com.

I think it is a very good idea ,and also if some members are doing a work and they are stuck they can just put it in and ask people about help in a very short period of time and continue with their work..
