Full Version: Weekly Drawing Challenge Aug.23rd through Aug.29th
Drawspace > Activities and Challenges > Challenges
Venus
happy.gif Hi All, its been a while since I hosted a weekly challenge. I'm Venus, hope you all enjoy the pics I have chosen.

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

The first picture is my 10 year old daughter Tuesday...
The second is a rose from a neighbors house...
The 3rd is the topper from my brothers wedding cake...

I'm sorry I don't have more pictures at the moment to offer, my computer is new and still havent transferred hard drive from old computer over to new one yet...Enjoy!!!

I really did try my best.. still looks like just an attempt..Thought with all of those flower trade cards I did I could improve... I'll keep practicing..

I tried to draw your lovely daughter with various graphites on cartridge paper. I don't think I've done her justice.

Great pictures Venus!
Thank you for hosting this week!
Venus
tongue.gif Wow, Texaslady, awesome job on Tuesday and the rose. I really like your watercolor style.

wink.gif Garyfallia, I agree with everyone else that picture is great for a wedding invitation. Very pretty and classy.

biggrin.gif Kim, you know me...LOL. Figured I had a long enough break from art, so what better way to get motivated than the best art site on the internet.

happy.gif Elena, thanks. I can't wait to see your work when you get back from your vacation.

cool.gif Mumwond, I think you did a pretty good job on your drawing of Tuesday. Keep practicing everyday and you will get better, best way to improve your work too.

biggrin.gif Paulette, Thanks!! I missed hosting...lol.
Krysta
Hi. I'm new to this site and so far I really like it here. I saw this challenge and used it as an opportunity to practice watercolor painting. I chose the cake topper. I'm not sure how you guys post the little thumbnail picture so I'm just going to post a link to view my painting. I kept it simple as possible because I am a beginner.

Okay I figured it out.

I love the watercolor portrait you did of the daughter, texaslady. Personally, at my level attempting a portrait with watercolor scares the living daylights out of me but maybe one day...

ElenaM
welcome to drawspace, Krysta. Your paintings is very delicate and I like especially the shadow.A very nice entry.

Ok. Venus. I finished a mechanical pencil sketch of your daughter. In Shanghai China is 1 pm, Saturday Aug. 29, 2009.It took me one hour; only that I will post my contribution in a couple of days when I return home. Has been a pleasure to draw such a beautiful girl.
oliverandjazz
yes welcome to drawspace and that is just a lovely contribution..well done wink.gif
ElenaM
Finally back home, It's sunday afternoon in california and I am posting my contribution in mechanical pencil on 5.5 x 8.5 in sketchbook. This was done at the club of our Sofitel Hotel in Shanghai. I printed the pic black and white and sketched it.I still need to see if i can capture that sweet smile again now that i am back home. She is a lovely young lady.
Venus
wink.gif Elena and Krysta, both of you did beautiful jobs on your references you chose. Sorry it took me so long to reply, hub had surgery last week on his spine (they went in through his neck, replaced and fuse 2 herniated disc and put bonelike stuff in place and screws). On top of kids getting ready and starting school. Crazy, crazy life!!

tongue.gif Paulette you are very welcome, I enjoyed hosting the challenge.
