Full Version: WEEKLY DRAWSPACE CHALLENGE
Drawspace > Activities and Challenges > Challenges
chrismh
All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

I hope you all have fun and find a picture you will want to tackle.

Get out your pencils your paint brushes or your crayons if you choose because in a "Draw Space Challenge" no one can lose!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavours to some form of drawing: graphite, coloured pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered a bunch of reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I used so many photos because I couldn't choose. I took many photos this week for the challenge, I'll save the rest for the next time.... have fun!
I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussions.

I think that it is great mumwond! The only thing is that the one getting the kiss is my son, LOL!

I took this picture at my Mom's lake and as I was watching the 2 of them the distance between them made the picture look really cool.

Thank you for drawing it.

Sorry about that. Give him my apologies. Lovely place - my Mum never had a lake!

No need to apologize, when his hair is long he does look like a cute little girl. LOL. He hears it all the time and it doesn't bother him. wink.gif

hi chomaee,

I think i looks great! This is one of my favorite photo's that I have recently taken. I started taking pictures at different angles, I was taking a walk and found a leaf on a branch with the sky in the background and thought that if I laid under it, it would take an awesome picture! I'm sure if someone saw me they would think I were crazy! LOL

I have a lovely Italian leather bound sketchbook that I've started drawing in so I thought I'd tackle one of these images.

This reference is cute and made me smile. Looks like they had a fun day.

This is 9 x 12 in graphite on cream coloured paper.

Chris, Please present my excuse to your daughter!
It's not easy to draw freehand a nice figure. If your hand trembles, you give some years more to the age of the model, if you insist to correct the mistake, the result becomes worst! Among other things, the direction of the eye is wrong, sorry,

Thank you so much for drawing this one. This photo is of my son watching a BMX race when he was 6. He is now 9 and still races, he has been New Jersey State Champion 4 years in a row now and National #1!

This photo just means so much to me because it shows such an intense stare while he was watching the other races.

Thank you again!

smile.gif your welcome! I love all of them also!

heya, unfortunately it turned out being a bit of a quick sketch in the end. I'm not very proud of it, there are some anatomy issues that I can see, but nevertheless it's my first drawing of an infant so not too bad, I guess. I hope you like it though smile.gif

I think it's an amazing job and you should be proud of it! I have tried to draw a few infants and they are more difficult. They're facial proportions are so different. You should be very proud and Thank you for going for it!

I was hoping that someone would draw this one.

I really love how you draw hair Janean, I wish I could get it down but I don't know what to do, they always look like wigs and scribbled in. The people would probably look better bald! LOL

If this is your first attempt at colour, you have done very well. Seeing and drawing in colour takes practice, you have a good start. Yours faithfully, Roza50
