I was trying to upload an image to this week's challenge, but it kept coming up with 'image too large' in spite of the fact I had reduced the resolution by using Picasa export to 600x427. I managed to put it in my gallery. Any suggestions?

Administrators, Please, revise the attachments behavior in the forum posts. Several members, me included, for the past four days haven't been able to upload pictures or attachments. Uploading images fails no matter the size of the file.
Thank you.

Hi Elena,

They do have an idea what's happening now, and some positive changes have been made. I'm not sure what the ultimate solution will be but I hope you can have patience.

The important thing is that there is a disk quota in place. I believe users are currently limited to 50 MB worth of forum attachments, total. At the recommended size of about 100K for an image, that's about 500 images. For an active user, it's easy to see how that limit would not be hard to reach -- especially if you post larger files than that.

This page lets you manage your forum attachments. It will show you a list (my list is 22 pages long!) of all the forum attachments you've made. You can free up some space by deleting some of these (check the boxes on the right, press "delete" on the bottom of the page.) This could buy you some time until the admins figure out what to do.

Thank you Ernest. This system is ridiculous. Imagine in the future I will not be able to host any challenge or add images in the forums because I used up my quota.I can't believe this. I have been in other forums around the web where i added everyday at least 5-6 attachments in one post and this was done for several years in a row and never had this problem with the software.

Thanks for that info. Ernest. I didn't know you could find that list. However, it doesn't really answer my problem on Monday as I still have 54% available. For some unknown reason, I managed to upload one this afternoon.

Note that Elena's member number is around 110,000. Even if there were just 110,000 members, 50 MB times 110,000 members is 5.5 terabytes of disk space (i.e., 25 times the storage on a typical PC, just for attachments, not even counting the galleries.) Although that means a lot less than it used to, it's still nothing to sneeze at. Maintaining all that disk space (i.e., keeping the disks online, running backups) is non-trivial, and costs money. For a site with no advertising, it's a non-trivial investment. Moving from 5 terabytes to unlimited storage would obviously cost even more!

I just don't know what to say. This will drastically limit my participation in any forum with images and definitely prevent me from hosting any challenge. there lots of members who never had a gallery image or a post in any forum. they practically don't count. If those MB go to all this non participant people then it's a waste.Very disappointed.

PS> I just tried to free some space by deleting and nothing changed. Most of the images are in challenges and by deleting them the challenges will be disfigured of the refrence photos.

Hi ElenaM,

We recently re-adjusted the quota allocations on the forum in order to guarantee a high level of overall service for our user base going forward. Currently, the free members are limited to 50MB in total for their forum attachments. It seems yours was one of two accounts that were already in excess of this limit. I will however temporarily restore the old limits while we investigate other options for dealing with the disk space concerns.
