Hi everyone, I'm sorry for the late post for the challenge. I was up late last night and I thought it had posted but I guess I did something wrong. I have posted a bunch of photos, something for everyone and as always I have to include some favorites of my kids.

Anyway... Here are some great photos that I have recently taken, actually just for this drawspace challenge host week. These photos are from the area where I live and have lived my whole life so needless to say I know where to go to get the great pictures that others would never find.

I have also taken a few fun ones of some beads because I love beads!

I hope you all join in and Have fun!

All levels of drawing are encouraged to participate!

The goal of this thread is to enable and encourage individuals to practice their drawing skills, learn new techniques and have fun! If you just want to sketch that’s fine. If you want to create a complex, detailed drawing, that’s great too. You will get out of this what you want. The references used are from my own personal reference library of images that I have photographed and I release them here as not under copyright, meaning you can use them as you wish for drawing.

You will be challenged by some aspect of all references most likely as you all will have different strengths and weaknesses in your ability to translate the images to paper.

Reminder:

This is a DRAWING challenge. Therefore please confine your artistic endeavors to some form of drawing: graphite, colored pencil, pen and ink or charcoal.

There is no ruling on what size your final drawing or sketch should be. Smaller, sketchbook sizes will provide a smaller file size which is easier for loading onto the thread.

If you would like assistance or advice, please ask for it and I will be more than willing to try to guide you.

This challenge will last for one week. At that time, all challenge drawings should be submitted to this thread.

I have offered 3-5 reference images to choose from. The images are also provided in greyscale. Seeing the images in black and white gives a better sense of basic values.

I have kept the images to simple shapes that still provide challenges. Block out your basic shapes first then work the details into them, rechecking proportion and measurement against other reference points in your drawing.

If you have an interest in hosting a challenge, please see the list in the pinned area of general discussion.

What a great job! I have tried to draw my nephew several times but I just find him so difficult and it never comes out right. I'll have to try again.

Thank you for participating.

Wow! I LOVE it! Your drawing of Gabe is... I can't even find the right word, it's just simple amazing. What type of paper is that, or is that just the way the light came out in the photo? It's a great effect!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I disagree! I think it has a great resemblance. I have to say Ava, at least for me is more difficult to draw because she has so many different expressions and they change so fast. It is probably so much easier and the end results are more realistic for someone that does not know her.

I love it and thank you smile.gif

Thank you! I wanted to get some great photos for this challenge so put a lot of thought into what would make everyone try at least one. I am so happy to see you all so excited about my photos and each others drawings.

Thank you everyone!

Another great job at Ava! I am by no means in any position to critique someone's else's work but I think if you used more shading and softened up the lines a little it would give it a little bit more dimension.

I love it and thank you for taking on the challenge of Ava... feel free to try more!

Great sunflower!
When we went pumpkin picking they also had rows and rows of sunflowers. The kids had so much fun running through all of the rows like they had not a care in the world! I found this great little sunflower and it was in the shape of a heart! I thought to myself...what a great drawspace challenge picture this would be. smile.gif

I found a Calligraphy pen set and book in the thrift store yesterday, so I decided to make use, and use it in this weeks challenge. Text and Sunflower.

My paper of choice is not solid enough, and the ink wicked into the paper quite a bit.
Good practice still.

That is another great drawing! I am so jealous when I see how you all draw hair, I just can't get it down... I'm horrible at hair! sad_an.gif

Thank you.

Anyone going to try the old Water Wheel House? That is actually a real working water wheel and pictures just cannot do it justice. It is located in Fredon, NJ on a 400 acre horse farm....it's a little piece of Heaven.

I think it looks great. I gave you the same shading advice that I got from the first challenge that I participated in. It was a huge help and made a great difference. I take all the advice that I can get! smile.gif

Thank you again!

I should get a crossword book lol I don't do any word games on my cell phone though because i'd probably need to go on the internet for that and it would cost money
