This heavily illustrated project invites you to use a simple grid to outline a realistically proportioned face of an adorable baby named Brandon (who just happens to be my grandson). Hatching is used to add shading to the face, clothing, and hair.

This was a great lesson. I loved the way that the drawing was broken down, it made it easy to first concentrate on the outline and shapes, and then work on the details (which is something I tend to struggle with).

Dear Brenda,
Once again, I love your art and i'm glad you take the time and make these lessons for other artists. I Love this lesson especially, because it showed me how good I was as drawing baby faces and upper body. So I took advantage and drew Brandon but I than did stuff different to make it original, yea. and thats the picture like attached to this post thing. lol.Well once again thank for inspiring me to draw a little bit more and giving me the confidence to do the visual arts. I love your art work. I have a suggestion to, you know your picture of Peggy's Cove that you drew, wel yea. I love that picture so much it made me cry, cause I used to live in a town right near it and we had to move. I Used to go there all the time to stand near the light house and watch the waves and than go get ice cream at the store in the dock house like right behind where you where standing when you drew that picture. Well anyways I better go. This post is getting really long. And thanks for talking the time to read it, byeee! <3 xoxo

The grid helped immensely with proportions. Made that part of the drawing go much quicker.

This came out really well. You cannot see the shading on the right very well. I had major problems with the hair. had to erase about 3 times. Thanks for the lesson, Brenda.

I'm not incredibly happy with the drawing, the eyes seem wrong, and the hair, but it came out much better than I thought.
