When you can identify positive and negative spaces inside a drawing space, you can draw what you see more accurately. This article illustrates the process of drawing objects by identifying and drawing three different types of spaces.

Negative space: the space in the back;the background
Positive space: the space in the front; what the picture is focusing on

Example: There's a picture of a vase on a table, and you see a sky in the background. The vase is the positive space, and the sky(the background) is the negative space.

This is just for anyone who doesn't understand negative and positive space :)

My first lessons in drawing. Starting this late in life is a little intimidating. I hope to improve soon. However if nothing else, this course is teaching me new ways to look at things. I tend to see things differently now.
