Squirkling a Bumpy Texture

In the real world, very few objects have actual lines defining their forms. Rather, contrasting values identify the edges of the object’s parts according to the lights and darks created by the dominant light source. This lesson focuses on values and forms rather than lines and shapes. You use squirkles to draw the wonderful bumpy texture of an avocado with shading only – no outlining.

May I ask what happened to lessons D07 and D09?

I managed to make it look a lot like the fruit, but I feel it could have used a better explanation on the bumps. Mine look terrible :)

Glad I'm not the only one who struggled on this one! Mine looks more like a potato. Will try smaller squirkles thanks for the tip!!

Good practice. I think I should have gone darker on mine. Next time....

You're right, kergheezen! I was just wondering why my avogado looks like a sheep. I'll try it again with small squirkles!

Very good lesson, although I have tried this lesson about four times now and I cant get it quite right. It simply doesnt seem to be sinking in.

A general comment I have for this drawing is, don't hesitate to draw your squirkles very small. Most of the drawings posted here have much too big squirkles and it either looks a wooly or a furry texture. It's important that your avocado doesn't look like a sheep (big squirkles)or a kiwi (medium ones).
